We’ve talked about the massive amount of unemployment fraud that has been occurring in all 50 states, and we’re finally starting to get a real figure of how much money has been stolen from hard working Americans.
With estimates in the range of $36 billion stolen in fraudulent unemployment schemes, these bad apples could be spoiling the whole bunch for claimants in your state.
Bill McCamley, cabinet secretary of the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, explained: “It’s a little bit of a high wire act. Because there’s so much pressure to get money out.”
He also stated: “Not only are they evil thieves, they’re hurting people who need this money in their pocket right now, intensely.”
According to the Texas Workforce Commision, “you can protect yourself from Unemployment Fraud: Never pay to apply for unemployment benefits, Report benefits/payment cards you didn’t request, Monitor your credit & check your credit reports, Report suspected fraud.
I completely agree, and hope that some of these funds can be recouped and distributed to the people that need and deserve them.
Meanwhile, we’ve been talking about the weekly $300 unemployment benefits that are starting to be disbursed, but haven’t heard much about that extra $100 weekly for gig-workers and freelancers.
Michele Evermore, a senior policy analyst at the National Employment Law Project, explained: “It’s really unlikely they’re paying the extra $100. They have to figure out how to get that information from people.”
The new stimulus package shows that employees have to earn at least $5,000 in qualifying self-employment income annually to be eligible for the extra $100 weekly bonus.
To see if you can claim these benefits, contact your local unemployment office and politicians and let them know that you want your extra $100.
Finally, more and more states are paying out the weekly $300 FPUC extended enhanced unemployment benefits.
As of this morning, the following states have started paying out weekly $300: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia.
I’m also hearing that the following states are planning to disburse these extended enhanced unemployment benefits next week: Maine, Montana, South Carolina, Vermont, and Washington.
Congratulations to everyone that has started to see these vital unemployment benefits in their bank accounts, and for everyone still waiting, help is on the way.
If you still haven’t applied for unemployment assistance, get your application in soon.
All you have to do is check out your state’s PUA or UI website, show them your employment history and ID, and let them know that you’ve been out of work due to that thing out there.
For honestly and truthfully answering their questions, you could receive a backdated unemployment check for up to $20,000!
