With millions of stimulus checks still in the hands of the IRS and not the bank accounts of struggling Americans, the tax agency is attempting to keep you in the loop regarding these disaster relief funds with a new online portal stimulus check tracker.
The IRS announced: “At the start of this month, it had 8.5 million unprocessed individual returns, including 2020 returns with errors and amended returns that require corrections or special handling.”
According to the IRS: “The best solution is to track your refund online using the Where’s My Refund tool or check your IRS account, and visit the Get Refund Status page.”
The IRS also announced that they have a new mobile app called IRS2Go that checks your tax refund status.
Hopefully this helpful information can help you track the status of your long awaited stimulus checks, as the IRS is pretty swamped right now and are not easy to get in contact with.
Meanwhile, the Senate is finally back in Washington following their August recess, and they hope to negotiate terms on a fourth stimulus check and the multiple disaster relief stimulus bills currently on the table.
Some of the top items that the Senate will likely discuss in the coming days include: funding the government by Sept. 30 to avoid a shutdown, raising the debt limit ahead of an October deadline, and the $3.5 trillion infrastructure stimulus bill.
Senate Budget Committee Chair Bernie Sanders stated: “Many of us made a major compromise in going from the $6 trillion bill that we wanted, supported by the overwhelming majority of Democrats, down to $3.5 [trillion].”
He continued: “And it would be a really sad state of affairs for the American people, for Congress, if both of those bills went down.”
While the Senate is back today in Washington, the House of Representatives still has one more week of vacation before they will have to board their PJ’s and head to the nation’s capital.
Do you think Congress will pass a fourth stimulus check, infrastructure stimulus bill and government funding to avoid a shutdown? Let me know in the comments down below.
Finally, leading House Democrats earlier today outlined multiple new tax hikes on corporations and wealthy people to fund an investment in the social safety net, infrastructure stimulus bill and climate policy that could reach $3.5 trillion.
According to a new report from the House Ways and Means Committee: “The plan calls for top corporate and individual tax rates of 26.5% and 39.6%, respectively.”
This new disaster relief stimulus plan would invest nearly $79 billion in IRS tax enforcement to increase revenue raised, and would primarily impact just the wealthiest Americans.
With half of Congress and leading House Representatives back in Washington and fighting for a fourth stimulus check and disaster relief funds, hopefully we’ll see some action very soon regarding these important stimulus funds that would help millions of Ameircans with some much needed fiscal support to ride out the rest of this stormy 2021.
