As we talk about nearly every week on this channel, the great state of California continues to struggle with unemployment problems.
This time, I’m hearing that California currently has a backlog of over 900,000 claims, as well as 1.2 million applications that have been flagged for potential fraud and still require actions from the state.
Fortunately, the EDD has announced that they will be extending the time it takes to verify your identification, explaining: “EDD has extended the window from 10 to 30 days for claimants to verify their identity with ID.me.”
They continued: “This extension will provide claimants ample opportunity to validate their identities before an EDD notice of disqualification is issued.”
While this is a step in the right direction, I just hope that California can get their act together, and hand out these vital unemployment benefits in a timely manner soon.
Meanwhile, Bank of America is offering their hard-working employees that earn less than $100,000 annually with a bonus check for $750.
CEO Brian Moynihan explained in a memo: “Our company and teammates were called upon to address unprecedented challenges and headwinds in the broader environment, working in support of each other, our clients and the communities where we work and live.”
He continued: “In appreciation for your outstanding efforts, the management team and I, with the support of our board of directors, have decided to recognize employees.”
Additionally, Bank of America offered employees earning over $100,000 with 150 to 750 restricted stock units, as well as making a pledge to offer a minimum wage for the company at $20.
These sound like great bonuses and wages for the 212,000 employees at BofA, and I hope that other banks can also provide a $20 minimum wage and recognition of good work.
Finally, President Biden signed 2 executive orders today, increasing food aid, protecting job seekers on unemployment and making way for a $15 Federal hourly minimum wage.
These orders will allow millions of low-income Americans to receive SNAP benefits to put food on the table, as well as offer protection for unemployment claimants from collecting benefits and refusing to take a job that could jeopardize their health.
Brian Deese, director of the White House National Economic Council, explained: “The American people cannot afford to wait. So many are hanging by a thread. They need help, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to provide that help as quickly as possible.”
If you still haven’t applied for unemployment assistance, the weekend if the perfect time to get your documents together to submit your application.
Visti your state’s PUA or UI website, show them your employment history and ID, and let them know that you’ve been out of work due to that thing out there if that’s the case.
For honestly and truthfully answering the provided questions, you could receive a backdated unemployment check for up to $20,000.
For all of the gig-workers, self employed, independent contractors, 1099 workers, even side hustlers, volunteers and freelancers, you can claim these unemployment benefits too, thanks to the PUA.
Don’t miss out on these incredible unemployment funds from the government, as they don’t do this kind of thing frequently.
