I’ve heard it from thousands of y’all in the comments, and millions of Americans across the country that have stopped receiving their unemployment benefits at the one-year mark of first getting these funds.
Fortunately a report from The City, in the great state of New York, outlined what’s holding up unemployment claims and how to reclaim these vital disaster relief unemployment stimulus funds.
It looks like the main issue stems from the end of unemployment claimants benefit year, which is typically 52 weeks after filing an initial unemployment claim, and not being approved to continue receiving funds after this time period.
According to the Department of Labor (DOL): “When you’ve reached a year on your unemployment claim, some people can just keep recertifying every week on their existing claim while others need to file a new claim.”
They continued: “you should have gotten an email or text message with instructions about what to do, and a DocuSign form to fill out.”
They also noted: “New claims can take two to three weeks to process, and your payments may get backed up.”
While it’s frustrating waiting to reclaim your unemployment benefits, you can rest assured that when you are back in the system, you should be able to claim all of the weeks that you’ve been awaiting these vital unemployment benefits.
Meanwhile, CBS News published an interesting study recently, and found that a majority of Americans want to continue working from home to some degree.
According to the report, 19% of Ameircans want to permanently work from home, while a whopping 41% wish to have a hybrid remote/office employment schedule.
This means that 6 in 10 Americans wish to spend some portion of their work day at their homes, due to the flexibility that it offers employees across the country.
26% of people polled want to go back to an office full-time, while 14% stated they did not want to work at all.
This study is fascinating, and I’m very curious about how the past 14 months of craziness will impact the next decade of employment and working from home or a mobile office.
Finally, it looks like payday could be any moment now, as the IRS is set to disburse the first round of $10,200 unemployment tax credits for millions of Americans as soon as this week.
According to the IRS they: “will issue refunds in two phases. It will start with taxpayers eligible to exclude up to $10,200 of unemployment benefits from their federal taxable income.”
They also stated: “The second phase includes married couples who file a joint tax return,” as well as those that the IRS calls “others with more complex tax returns.”
Hopefully these vital unemployment tax stimulus funds will begin hitting bank accounts soon, and please let me know in the comments if you get upwards of $1,000 back from the IRS.
If you still haven’t applied for unemployment assistance, start the week off right and apply today.
Visit your state’s PUA or UI website, upload your employment history and ID, and fill out the application as genuinely as possible and to the best of your abilities.
For honestly and truthfully answering all their questions, you could receive a backdated unemployment check for over $20,000.
To all of the gig-workers, self-employed, independent contractors, 1099 workers, even side hustlers, volunteers and freelancers, the US government did not forget about you, thanks to the PUA.
