HP Envy 24 Monitor Review – 24-Inch HD Screen with Beats Audio

Buy it on Amazon – http://lon.tv/hc1qi (affiliate link)

It’s easy to find a cheap 24″ monitor, but most of the models that come in between $150-$200 tend to have very limited viewing angles that require almost a precise position to see an image properly. The HP envy, while not that much more expensive than the low end of the market, displays a beautiful picture at nearly every angle with its IPS display. It’s impressive.

I also like the modern industrial design along with its very thin bezels. It’s a really attractive piece of gear. It’s disappointing that it lacks VESA mounts which would have provided more mounting options.

The monitor also integrates speakers with Beats – although the Beats audio really isn’t all that spectacular. The speakers do sound ok and can get quite loud when you want them to be. Audio can be passed through digitally via the HDMI cable or analog through an included cable. It’s worth noting HP includes all of the cables needed to connect devices to the display. That was thoughtful.

As noted in Christopher’s review above, Mac users will want to disable the scaling feature to get a better quality image. It will really look lousy the first time you plug a Mac in, but disabling that setting will fix the issue completely.

If you’re getting used to the high DPI displays we have on our Macbook Pro Retinas and other computers, you will most definitely see the pixels on this display. This is not a fault of the display, but it’s evident that we are in need of high DPI options for desktop monitors. I am sure that by this time next year we’ll be looking at 4k (or perhaps higher) displays in this size that will offer image quality on par with some of the premium notebook displays out there.

But all in this is a great value for a display. It’s attractive, has great viewing angles, and usable audio. HP did a nice job here.

How do you get the mac display to fit the screen of the Envy 24 monitor ? Some of my display are not sowing, the edges are gone. Please help.

  15. I bought this monitor for my Late 2012 Mac Mini and LOVE it. Equivalent monitors from Apple are going for well over $600 to $900.  You may lose a few fussy pixels, but the average person without a really well trained set of eyes won't even notice. The sound is awesome of the bedroom and okay for the living room. There's also a headphone jack on the side for a more private listening experience. The only real downside that I see with this monitor is that precisely due to the fact that it is IPS, the 3M and similar privacy filters won't work too well on it.

I have an HP Envy Redline desktop and laptop with the Beats Audio. You can change up the EQ settings on them and they both sound amazing on my system. It's truly the only type of computer I feel comfortable with.

  17. How do you connect the keyboard and mouse

Hey, what hdmi adapter do you use on your mac and does the hdmi carry sound aswell or do you have to have an audio cable or something. Please respond.

  29. Hey Seidman, can you explain how you connect the monitor with your mac? I try to connect my macbook pro 13' via thunderbolt – hdmi adapter with the monitor, but it doesnt work.

    thx in advance

  30. haha im watching this review of this monitor on the excact same monitor xD. I paid £249.99 for it and had to wait almost a month due to it being out of stock but im glad to say it was worth the wait as i brought the phoenix envy pc from hp that came with a simular model monitor but had no built in speakers and seeing as though im space cramped i didnt want external speakers cluttering up the place so i opted to replace it with this. Very nice looking monitor ticks all of my boxes 😀

  31. It's IPS but it's not a flicker free panel. That should be the most important feature alongside IPS panel.

  32. Great addition to a Hackintosh build.

  33. Lars Händler

I also cannot understand why HP is so dedicated to Beats audio. Would love to see them team up with Sennheiser.

  34. This screen is OUYA compatible?

  35. Does it have sRGB color mode?

  36. charlie brownau

Hi , looks like a nice screen. Sorta looks like an apple style of screen. $150-$200 bucks ? The amazon link refers to US$275 on sale and US$300 normal price. I would not buy it to pricey and looks like a Mac Screen. I would look into a Viewsonic , AOC , Asus instead. Its still nice to see what is out .

  37. Cool 😛
